Konbini allows customers in Japan to pay for bills and online purchases in cash at convenience stores. Customers will complete their payments using payment codes. You can read the documentation for Konbini payments here.

Activate from the Dashboard

You can activate Konbini in the Payment methods section of your Dashboard, under Settings. Clicking the Turn on button will begin the activation process.

Konbini review requirements

As a minimum, the following information is required to start accepting Konbini payments:

• A live Stripe account (meaning that you have submitted your account application).
• A link on the top page with a complete list of the Specified Commercial Transactions Act requirements. Please pay special attention to:
  • Business address
  • Landline support phone number and email address
  • Available support hours
  • Price and additional fees
  • Refund, exchange and return policies
  • Dispatch and delivery times
  • Available payment methods
• If eligible, a link with the Payment Services Act requirements
• If eligible, relevant business licences displayed on your website
• The business type is not on the prohibited business list
• Your website is readable in Japanese

If your business requires login credentials to view the sold services and products, you may be asked to submit additional documentation.

Review timeline

The external partner reviews will take around 30 days to complete. Your Stripe account will be unable to accept Konbini payments during this time.

We will notify the account owner's email address in case the review requires additional information. Having inaccurate information on your account can add extra weeks to the review, so we recommend checking your account details thoroughly, including your business URL, before activating.

Do not change the Stripe account details or the business website while the review is still ongoing. Making changes to account details that have already been submitted will result in additional reviews being carried out.

Review result

Please visit the Dashboard settings page to view the review status. However, further details are noted in the email sent to the account owner following the review. Furthermore, please contact Support if you need to make changes to your account, business website or business model once you have received an approval. This is required by Konbini user policy.

Making payments

• The maximum amount that can be processed on Konbini in one go is JPY 300,000
• Available convenience store chains are FamilyMart, Lawson, Ministop and Seicomart. 7-Eleven and Daily Yamazaki are not supported at this time.
• The payment processing fee is 3.6%, with a minimum of JPY 120
• Refunds are available with fees of JPY 250 + 10% consumption tax (JPY 275)
• Konbini can be used on Billing and Checkout. Connect users will require additional review, which may take longer than typical applications.

Payouts

Regardless of the convenience store chains, funds will be available after four working days, as with other payment methods.
