Change the owner of your Stripe account

The steps to change your Stripe account owner depends on whether the new owner is an existing user or not.

If you are logged in as the current owner and you wish to transfer ownership to someone else who is an Administrator of your team:

  1. Go to the team section of your business settings.
  2. Click the “Edit” button next to the user you wish to make the owner.
  3. From the popup, choose the option to “Transfer ownership to this user.”

If you are logged in as the current owner and just want to change the email address we have on file:

  1. Go to the business settings page, enter the new email address in the “public information” form and click the “Save” button.
  2. We’ll email the current owner address with a confirmation link. Once you click that link, we’ll finalize the update.

If you want to transfer ownership to another user already on the account who isn’t an administrator:

  1. Go to the team section of your business settings.
  2. Click the “Edit” button next to the user you wish to make the owner.
  3. Set their role to “Administrator” and click “Update”.
  4. Click the “Edit” button next to the user you wish to make the owner a second time.
  5. From the popup, select the option to “Transfer ownership to this user.”

If you want to transfer ownership to a new user not yet on the account:

  1. Go to the team section of your business settings.
  2. Click the “New User” button.
  3. Add their email address and set their role to “Administrator.”
  4. Once they’ve accepted the invite, go to the team section of your business settings.
  5. Click the “Edit” button next to the user you wish to make the owner.
  6. From the popup, select the option to “Transfer ownership to this user.”
