# Transferring a Stripe account for a business acquired by a legal entity in a different country

If your business was acquired by an entity in a country that is different to the country in which your Stripe account is registered, you will need to:
1. Transfer ownership to the [new owner](/questions/change-account-owner).
1. The new owner should then [create a new Stripe account](https://dashboard.stripe.com/register) with the new business country.
1. The new owner can then [contact Stripe Support](/email) to request a [data transfer](/questions/moving-account-data-to-another-stripe-account) from the old account to the new account.
