# Stripe Terminal application cannot connect to WisePOS E or Stripe Reader S700/S710 over WiFi connection

See this article for steps on advanced networking settings.
## Quick steps
1. Reconnect the application device to the desired local network
1. Connect the reader to the same local network.
## Additional troubleshooting
* This often occurs when your devices are on different WiFi networks, causing your SDK to be unable to connect to the reader. You can view that the card reader and application are on the same local area network checking the [Wifi settings](https://stripe.com/docs/terminal/payments/setup-reader/bbpos-wisepos-e#settings) of the reader.
* WiFi networks must use WPA/WPA2/WPA3-Personal or WPA2/WPA3 EAP-PEAP Enterprise encryption, and must be password protected.
* You may not be on a supported firmware / configuration. See our [documentation](https://stripe.com/docs/terminal/readers/bbpos-wisepos-e#reader-software-version) for checking reader firmware / configurations.
* Try updating the firmware on your router.
* If the above steps don't work, you may be encountering a DNS error. See these steps for more info.
If you are having issues with WiFi, you can also connect with Ethernet via the use of an [optional dock](https://stripe.com/docs/terminal/readers/bbpos-wisepos-e). This provides wired Ethernet connectivity and keeps your smart reader fully charged using the included charging cable. You can purchase the dock separately through the Stripe Dashboard.
