October 2023 pricing updates for global standard pricing users

Starting October 15, 2023, we’re updating our fees for international card transactions for Stripe users in Australia, Canada, Hong-Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, Mexico and Malaysia.

We’re also updating our dispute fee policy for businesses in the above mentioned countries, as well as in Brazil, India, Thailand, and the UAE.

To help businesses increase revenue on Stripe, network tokens are now free for all users on standard pricing.

Please refer to the following details to understand how these changes may impact your business.

What's changing?

International card fees

Any card issued by a bank outside the country where you hold your Stripe account is considered an international card.

Over the past few years, the cost of card processing has increased. As a result, starting October 15, 2023, Stripe’s additional fee for international card transactions will change as follows:

* International card transactions in Australia are charged both the domestic fee (1.75%) + the new international fee (1.75%) to give a total of 3.5%+A$0.3.

** International card transactions in New Zealand are charged both the domestic fee (2.7%) + the new international fee (1%) to give a total of 3.7%+NZ$0.3.

If you currently process payments in more than one country, you will be impacted by the specific changes applied to each country.

Disputes

Whether you win or lose a dispute, Stripe incurs a fee. To cover these costs, starting October 15, Stripe will no longer return the fee for successfully contested disputes.

These changes apply to Stripe accounts in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Hong-Kong, India, Singapore, Thailand, New Zealand, Malaysia, Japan and the UAE. The dispute fee amount is not changing.

Network tokens are now free

To help businesses increase revenue on Stripe, network tokens are now enabled for users on standard pricing at no extra cost. Network tokens automatically update card details when old cards expire so your customers don't need to enter their new card details.

FAQs

What can help me offset these costs?

If you have a high volume of international card transactions, you can enable bank, digital wallet, or other payment methods using Checkout or the Payment Element, or through the API. Below are a few payment methods that might be relevant for your customers (fee varies by payment method):

What if I process payments in multiple countries?

If you process payments in multiple countries, the international card fee increases your account will incur depend on the country where the card was issued. Changes to pricing will go into effect starting October 15, 2023. For example:

1. If you have a US-based Stripe account, and process payments for non-Canadian cards (international cards) in Canada, these international transactions will incur an international card fee of 0.8% (including the 0.2% increase effective October 15th). Additionally, Stripe will no longer return fees for successfully contested disputes from those transactions.

2. If you have a Great Britain-based Stripe account and process payments in Australia and/or Canada, all international card transactions will be impacted by the 0.6% increase in Australia and the 0.2% increase in Canada starting October 15, 2023. Likewise, Stripe will no longer return fees for won disputes in these countries.
