Guide to 1099 tax forms for Instacart Shopper

Instacart previously partnered with Stripe to file 1099 tax forms that summarize your earnings or sales activities. We’ve put together some FAQs to help you learn more about 1099s, and how to use Stripe Express to review your tax information and download your tax forms for previous tax years.

If you have already created a Stripe Express account, you can log in to manage your tax information at connect.stripe.com/app/express.

How do I access my Instacart 2023 1099 tax form?

Instacart has changed their 1099 filing & delivery process for 2023. You’ll need to reach out to Instacart to access your 2023 1099 tax form – 2023 forms will not be delivered through Stripe Express. Check the link to the Instacart Shopper site to learn more.

How do I access my Instacart 2021 and 2022 1099 tax forms?

If you’re an independent US contractor or gig worker that earned $600 or more in 2021 or 2022 through Instacart, you would’ve been sent an email inviting you to create an account and log in to Stripe Express.

If you are unable to find that email, head to our Support Site where you can request a new link to be sent to your email. If you still are not able to locate your invite email, please reach out to Instacart support for help with accessing your 1099 tax form or updating your email address to access Stripe Express.

How can I download my Instacart 2021 or 2022 1099 tax form?

If you’ve already created a Stripe Express account and agreed to paperless delivery, select the dropdown next to the year to toggle to the year of your choosing and select the option to View Form to download. You’ll need to enter the last four digits of the TIN on the 1099 tax form before downloading.

If you’ve lost or updated your phone number, you can select the “I no longer have access to this phone number” option to authenticate via email and change your phone number. Check out the link below to learn more.

How do I update the tax information on my Instacart 2021 or 2022 1099 tax form?

You can review and edit your tax information directly in the Instacart Shopper App. You will not be able to edit your tax information in Stripe Express.

You may find that your 1099 tax form reports your SSN and you want to use your EIN (or vice-versa). If that’s the case, you’ll want to reach out to Instacart support to update your legal entity information.

Please note: If you’re operating as an individual, Sole Proprietorship, or Single Member LLC, the IRS will expect to see the individual owner’s Name and SSN (as opposed to Business Name and EIN) reported on your 1099 tax form.

When answering the account claim security questions, it states that my answers are incorrect, what should I do?

Please reach out to Instacart support to confirm the information that they have on file against the information you are providing.

Why is Stripe requesting my Social Security number (SSN), Employer Identification Number (EIN), or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)?

Your SSN, EIN, or ITIN is required to file your 1099 tax form with the IRS and relevant state tax authorities.

How do I get a corrected 2021 or 2022 1099 tax form?

If you feel you need corrections made to your 1099 tax form that has already been ‘Filed’, you can edit the details directly in the Instacart Shopper App and then reach out to Instacart to request a correction be made. Once Instacart ‘Files’ your correction, you will be notified via email and you will see a new 1099 tax form appear in the Stripe Express dashboard.

Please note that it can take up to 48 to 72 hours after Instacart files the correction for you to be notified. Before downloading your corrected 1099 tax form you will need to consent to paperless delivery, if you haven’t already done so, and enter the last four digits of the TIN on the 1099 tax form.

If you previously did not consent to paperless delivery and would prefer to have your corrected 1099 tax form mailed to you, you will need to reach out to Instacart for assistance.
