Troubleshooting ID upload for identity verification

Your platform partners with Stripe for secure payments. In some cases, Stripe will require that you provide an image of your photo ID and selfie to confirm your identity. We’ll need to capture an image of your government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license or passport in your account. Sometimes we’ll also need to capture an image of your face in addition. Please do not email your platform or Stripe with images of your Photo ID - this is sensitive information and should only be uploaded through your account.

Before starting the verification process, you’ll need:

  • A valid government-issued photo ID document.
    • Check that your ID is not expired.
    • Check that the ID uploaded belongs to the individual whose information is being verified. If the information on your ID does not match your account, you can update your personal information here.
    • ID must not be redacted, altered, or damaged.
    • Check that your ID type is supported in the country drop-down.
  • Mobile device with a camera. Cameras on mobile devices typically take higher-quality photos than a webcam.

The quality of the images captured affects success rates dramatically. Below are a few tips to help ensure that your verification passes:

  • Capture a clear image. Make sure that the images are not too dark or bright, and don't have a glare. Hold steady and allow your camera to focus to avoid blurry photos.
  • Do not block any part of your ID document in the image. Ideally you can lay it flat to take the photo.
  • Do not block any part of your face. Remove sunglasses, masks, or other accessories.
  • Find a location with ambient lighting. Avoid spaces with strong overhead lights that cast a shadow on your face or ID document. Avoid sitting directly in front of a bright light which can wash out your face and add a glare to your ID document.

If for some reason the link to complete ID verification isn’t working, please try the following:

  • Restarting your browser
  • Clearing your browser cache
  • Using a different browser

Problems with uploading your ID via mobile phone

If you don’t receive a text message, you can use a QR code instead to access the link. Click on “Other Options” in the top right and select “Barcode Link”. Use your phone’s camera (if QR code detection is supported) or a barcode scanning app of your choice to scan this code and access the link.

Problems with accessing your computer's webcam to photograph your ID

Check that you’ve given your browser permission to access your webcam -- If you block permissions to your camera, refer to Chrome [chrome://settings/content/camera], Safari, Edge documentation on allowing applications to use your webcam.

If you do not have a webcam or are running into issues with your webcam, you can use the camera on your mobile phone by selecting “Other Options” in the upper right corner and choose “switch to another device”. You will be prompted to enter your mobile phone number and Stripe will send a link to your phone to start the process.

Problems with the actual photograph

  • Be sure that you’re well lit from the front, not the back.
  • Make sure that your fingers are not covering any parts of the ID.
  • If you are using your mobile phone, try laying the ID on a flat contrasting surface in a well lit room.

Problems with uploading an image file

To upload an image file, if not prompted directly, select “Other Options” and select upload images.

Image upload requirements:
