Stripe India support for marketplaces

Stripe services are invite-only in India. Businesses from India are not able to sign up for a new Stripe account through our website, and instead need to request an invite. Read more about invite-only Stripe accounts in India.

Stripe Connect is an API and set of tools used to route payments between a business, customers, and recipients who need to get paid. It powers payments for business models like marketplaces and software platforms.

Restrictions on Connect for Stripe India:

Depending on your preferred integration, you may need to engage with the sales team
On behalf of capability for destination charges is not supported for all integrations
Separate charges and transfers charge type, or standalone transfers via the dashboard or API to connected accounts, are currently not supported
Manual payouts to connected accounts is supported for limited use-cases. Contact Support if you are interested in this feature.
Platform account top-ups are only supported for negative balances
Cross border transactions are only supported for:
- Connected accounts with direct charges and without application fee, who have access to the Stripe Dashboard, and where loss liability and fee collection are managed by Stripe
- US-based platforms with connected accounts on the Recipient Terms of Service with Separate Charges and Transfers without on_behalf_of or Top-up and Transfers. Destination charges and destination charges with on_behalf_of are not supported
Due to India data local storage requirements, we don't support updating country to or from India after account creation. You will need to create a new connected account and select the revised country upon account creation

Restrictions on cross-border transactions

These restrictions don't apply to Indian accounts with the recipient service agreement.

Stripe India plugins

Domestic charges (INR) and export (international) charges (non-INR) are supported with all plug-ins including Shopify, Chargebee, Magento, and WooCommerce. If you have questions, reach out to your plugin to find out more about supporting Indian export transactions on Stripe.
