Stripe screens all cardholder names in accordance with legal and regulatory guidelines. For more information on creating cardholders, please review our documentation here.
If a cardholder is flagged during automated screening, Stripe will open a manual review for them. Users will receive a webhook for the requirements.disabled_reason attribute present. It will indicate what additional information is needed in order to clear the review, or that the cardholder is under review and we do not need any additional information at the moment to conduct our review.
In the Dashboard under Issuing > Cardholders, a banner will appear at the top of the page reflecting the information in the requirements.disabled_reason attribute noted above.
While a cardholder is under review, authorizations are declined with a decline code of cardholder_verification_required until Stripe is able to clear them.
Please note that for cardholders undergoing a watchlist review, the cardholder and their cards status will not change. In other words, a cardholder can be “active” and also pending a watchlist review, meaning that they can create cards, but will not be able to make authorizations with them.
Our team will review any flagged cardholders, and updated information about these cardholders, within 24 hours.
To reduce delays caused by these reviews and the frequency of these reviews, please provide additional information such as a full name and date of birth at the time of creation. We advise creating cardholders at least 24 hours before usage in order to ensure they clear potential watchlist reviews and do not run into any other problems.
If the cardholder is cleared, authorizations can resume. We will send an issuing_cardholder.updated webhook event with requirements.disabled_reason empty.
If a cardholder does not pass our review, the cardholder’s status will be shown as “Blocked” and their cards will be automatically cancelled.
