Issuing: Active/inactive status of cards

Cards can also have the status of “active” or “inactive.”

If a card status is “active,” this refers to the card being able to make transactions.

If a card is set to “inactive,” this means the card is ready to be used, but just not activated yet. Transactions will not be able to be made with an “inactive” card.

The card status can be changed to “active” or “inactive” by updating the status with the API, or by using the Dashboard.

In the Dashboard, users can go to Issuing > Cards > and select the specific card.

If the card is currently set to “Active,” users can click on the white button that says “Deactivate Card” to change the status to “Inactive.”

Will a card be delivered as “active” or “inactive” ?

When initially creating a card, users will have the option of setting the status to be “active” or “inactive.”

The status of a card can be set via the API when creating the card, or via the Dashboard. If users go into the Dashboard > Issuing > Cardholders > Cards section > Click on the “+ Add” button, a window will pop up like so which give users the option to select the status of the card upon creation:

The recommendation is to set physical cards to “inactive” until the cardholder confirms they have received the physical card. For virtual cards, the recommendation is to create cards with an “active” status.
