Change in circumstance and legal documentation

Once your account has been verified and you have submitted a Form W-8 or Form W-9, Stripe will want to make sure the account information is up to date. If there are any relevant changes made to your account (e.g. Name, Address, Tax ID, Business Type, etc), Stripe may be required to request an updated Form W-8/W-9 to confirm that new information.

If the change was a mistake, you can simply revert back to the information in your account that was already verified and documented. However, we will still need you to complete the submission process of either a Form W-8 or Form W-9.

If the change was not a mistake, you’ll be required to complete a new Form W-8/W-9, as well as submit any required legal documentation that confirms the change.

Please make sure you upload your documentation as part of your new Form W-8/W-9.

Examples of Legal Documentation per type of change include, but are not limited to:

Legal Name change

  • Name change declaration from the government registry where the business is registered
  • Updated articles of incorporation
  • Updated partnership agreement
  • Government issued ID

Entity Type change

  • Updated listing on a government registry where the business is registered
  • Form 8832
