Platform controls for connected accounts

Newly-created connected accounts on Stripe have platform controls enabled, allowing platforms to manage additional settings on their users' behalf. This includes creating payouts, updating payout schedules, and adding platform branding to users' dashboards. Users cannot disconnect the administering platform, revoke its access, or create a Connect integration with the account; instead, you can create a new Stripe account for these purposes.

Account holders with Stripe Dashboard access will see the following notice in their Dashboard indicating that their account is platform controls enabled:

Settings that a Connect platform or marketplace can manage include:

  • Creating new payouts on your behalf.
  • Updating your account’s payout schedule.
  • Adding their platform or marketplace's branding to your Dashboard. You might see the platform's brand color on the left side of the nav bar and their name and logo in the bottom left similar to the example below:

Account holders will also see the following changes to in their Stripe Dashboard:

  • You cannot disconnect the platform that administers your account.
  • You cannot create a Connect integration with the account. Please create a new Stripe account instead.

In the Authorized Applications page you will not be able to revoke access to the platform or marketplace that is managing your account.

If you prefer to disconnect your account from the platform instead, reach out to the platform. Your platform will be able to initiate the disconnection process for you.

  • If a platform disconnects your account via the API, you will also have the ability to transition your account to a direct Stripe account and remove all platform controls.

  • If a platform disconnects your account via their dashboard, no further action is needed on your end.

Finally, if you would like to build a Stripe integration, we strongly recommend creating a new Stripe account instead of using API keys on the platform administered account. You will see the following notice with this recommendation:

In some cases, due to the new controls, a platform may choose to manage account activity on your behalf in conflict with how you design your direct Stripe integration. We recommend starting fresh and using a new set of API keys to build your integration.

FAQ

When can I expect to see these changes? Your Platform may choose to take these actions on your behalf at any point in time.

What if my Platform takes an action that I don’t expect? If you have concerns with an update that your Platform makes on your behalf, such as modifying your payout schedule, please reach out to your Platform.

How do I opt out of this change? This upgrade is the new recommended experience for connected accounts. Your experience should not be impacted outside of the settings that the platform can now manage on your behalf. There are no changes to your Stripe login or access. If you would like an account without any platform management, we recommend creating a new account through the Dashboard. You can always switch between your accounts using the account switcher:
