Identity Theft Related To A 1099-K Issued By Stripe

If you suspect identity theft related to a 1099-K, please adhere to the steps outlined below prior to contacting support. Once you've completed either part 1 or part 2, please reach out to Stripe Support, providing the FTC and a Police report along with a copy of the form or notice you’ve received from the IRS. Doing so allows us to verify your information and address identity theft issues effectively.


Part 1: Instructions for US Users

If you're a user based in the US and suspect identity theft, it's important to take immediate and thorough action to protect your information. Prior to reaching out to Stripe Support, please follow both of the steps below:

File a Report with the FTC: Start by filing an identity theft report with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). This report helps to formally record the incident and provides you with crucial recovery steps.

File a Police Report: Additionally, report the incident to your local law enforcement. When filing a police report, please ensure the following:

  1. Confirm the Precinct: Ensure that the report is filed with the correct precinct that has jurisdiction over the area where the identity theft occurred.
  2. Match Information: Verify that the information reported as stolen aligns with the details of your account.
  3. Officer's Name: Record the name of the officer who received and filed your report.

Part 2: Instructions for International Users

For our users residing outside the US, please follow the steps below before reaching out to Stripe Support::

File a Police Report: If you're an international user facing identity theft, you are required to file a police report in your local jurisdiction. Ensure that your report includes the following details:

  1. Confirm the Precinct: Make sure that your report is filed with the correct local law enforcement agency.
