Dispute process and submitting evidence

If a cardholder disputes a payment to you, you have the option to challenge the dispute by submitting evidence via the Dashboard or API. After submitting evidence, Stripe will send it to the card issuer for their review.

Dispute process

A dispute (also known as a chargeback) occurs when a cardholder questions your payment with their card issuer. The dispute process and timeline varies by card network, but typically follows this process.

Countering disputes

Every new dispute is assigned a reason code. If you believe the dispute's reason is incorrect or want to challenge the dispute, upload evidence supporting why the payment was valid through the Dashboard or via the API. Stripe sends submitted evidence to the card issuer for their review.
