Payout failure codes in Brazil and how to resolve
Sometimes payouts to your bank account may fail for a number of different reasons. When a payout fails, you will see a code in your dashboard with the failure reason:
Below the explanation of each code, and next steps to resolve issues receiving your payouts:
Failure code | Reason | How to resolve |
account_closed | The bank account has been closed. | Add new bank account details in this link. |
account_frozen | The bank account has been frozen. | Reach out to your bank to resolve the situation on your account, or add new bank account details in this link. |
bank_account_restricted | The bank account has restrictions on either the type, or the number, of payouts allowed. This normally indicates that the bank account is a savings or other non-checking account. | Add new bank account details in this link. For more information on accepted bank accounts, please visit our support article. |
bank_ownership_changed | The destination bank account is no longer valid because its branch has changed ownership. | Reach out to your bank to resolve the situation on your account, or add new bank account details in this link. |
could_not_process | The bank could not process this payout. | Review your bank account details to ensure they were correctly entered. Reach out to us for assistance if needed. |
debit_not_authorized | Debit transactions are not approved on the bank account. (Stripe requires bank accounts to be set up for both credit and debit payouts.) | Reach out to support for assistance if needed. |
declined | The bank has declined this transfer. | Please contact the bank before retrying. |
insufficient_funds | Your Stripe account has insufficient funds to cover the payout. | Reach out to support for assistance if needed. |
invalid_account_number | The routing number seems correct, but the account number is invalid. | Review your bank account details to ensure they were correctly entered. |
incorrect_account_holder_name | Your bank notified us that the bank account holder name on file is incorrect. | Add a bank account that is associated to the same person/entity as your Stripe account (CPF for accounts Pessoa Física or CNPJ for accounts Pessoa Jurídica). |
incorrect_account_holder_tax_id | Your bank notified us that the bank account holder tax ID (CPF for accounts Pessoa Física or CNPJ for accounts Pessoa Jurídica) on file is incorrect. | Add a bank account that is associated to the same person/entity as your Stripe account (CPF for accounts Pessoa Física or CNPJ for accounts Pessoa Jurídica). |
invalid_currency | The bank was unable to process this payout because of its currency. This is probably because the bank account cannot accept payments in that currency. | Add new bank account details matching the payout currency in this link. |
no_account | The bank account details on file are probably incorrect. No bank account could be located with those details. | 1) Review your bank account details to ensure they were correctly entered. 2) Make sure your bank account is associated to the same person/entity as your Stripe account. |
