Your platform determines the legal entity type for your business when they create your Stripe Express account. If your account’s legal entity type is currently an individual, single member LLC, or sole proprietorship your personal tax details will be used on your 1099 tax form and you will only see the option to enter an SSN, not an EIN.
To enter your business tax details and use your EIN, your legal entity type will need to be changed to a company.
Please contact your platform to update your legal entity so you can enter your business tax details and your EIN in your 1099 tax form.
Note that the reverse applies. If your account’s legal entity type is currently a company, you will be prompted to enter an EIN. To forego this requirement, your legal entity type will need to be changed to an individual, single member LLC, or sole proprietorship.
