# Stripe Express login errors and how to fix them

If you're seeing an error when trying to access your account, find your message below and follow the steps to resolve it.

## "The email you used is already associated with a Stripe user"
This email is linked to a different type of Stripe account. Stripe Express doesn't support sharing an email across account types.
To move forward, you can:
- Use a different email address with Stripe Express.
- If you no longer use your other Stripe account, change the email address on that account via the [Stripe Dashboard](https://dashboard.stripe.com/login).

## "Email not recognized"
Before you can sign in, you'll need to verify your account. For instructions, see How do I login to my Stripe Express account?
## "An account exists with this email but a different phone number"
You have an existing Express or Custom account that uses this email but a different phone number.
### If you can sign in to your existing account
To use a different phone number, [sign in to Stripe Express](https://express.stripe.com/) and update it in **Settings**. Only one contact method can be updated at a time.
If you'd prefer not to change your phone number, use a different email address to verify your tax information.
### If you can't sign in to your existing account
Use a different email address to complete the verification with your platform. Or, to keep using the same email, follow the steps in I lost my phone or changed my number – how do I login to my account? to update your phone number.
## "Something went wrong"
This is usually a browser or device issue. Try the following:
- Open an incognito or private browser window and try again
- Make sure your browser is up to date
- Try a different browser or device
## "Your account isn't active yet"
If you're landing in a test or sandbox environment when you try to sign in, or your account doesn't appear to exist, your platform may not have finished setting up your account. Contact your platform to check the status of your onboarding, or to request a new onboarding link.
## "We were unable to verify your identity"
This error can appear when the personal details on your account don't match the information you're providing. [Sign in to your Express account](https://express.stripe.com/), go to **Settings**, and check your details under **Personal details**.
## Other errors
If your error isn't listed above, your account may be fully managed by your platform. In that case, Stripe may not be able to grant you direct access. Contact your platform for help, so they can check your account settings and generate a new login link if needed.
