I’m receiving an error when trying to access my account

There are a few common errors you may receive when trying to access your account. Please review the list below and follow the steps to resolve the error based on which message is appearing.

The email you used is already associated with a Stripe user

It looks like the email address that you're using with the platform is also associated with another Stripe account of a different type. Currently Stripe Express does not support using the same email across different Stripe account types.

Below are options for moving forward:

Email not recognized

You’ll need to complete the account access/verification process before you can sign-in via the Express login page. To learn how to log into your Stripe Express account, please see How do I login to my Stripe Express account?

An account exists with this email but a different phone

This usually means that the you have an existing Express/Custom account registered under the same email address but with a different phone number.

If you are able to login to your existing account

If you would like to use a different phone number to verify your tax information, you will need to change the phone number associated with this Express account. You can do so by logging in to Stripe Express and going to the Account tab. Please note that only one contact method for Express can be updated at a time.

If you would prefer not to change the phone number associated with your Express account, then we'd recommend using a different email address to verify your tax information.

If you are not able to login to your existing account

If you no longer have access to this phone number, there are a couple of ways to help you verify your tax information.

If you would like, you can use a different email address to complete the verification with your platform. If you would prefer to use the same email address, you can change the phone number associated with your existing Express account by going to https://connect.stripe.com/express_login and attempting to login using your email address. Once you've entered your email address, you can select the option "I no longer have access to this phone number" to change the phone number associated with your account. Once this is complete, this will allow you to complete the verification for the platform with the new number.
