# Why did I receive an email asking me to reconnect my bank account?

When you connect your bank account with Stripe, we establish a secure connection so you can make payouts, receive payouts, or access new products and services. These connections can break due to technical issues with your bank or if you direct either your bank or Stripe to disconnect. A business may ask you to reconnect your bank account if the previous connection broke.
### How do I reconnect my bank account?
Reconnect your account by visiting the business’s website or app directly and adding an account, or follow the link provided by Stripe to repair the connection using the authentication flow.
### Why does the business need to reconnect my account?
When a connection is broken, the business can no longer access your account to facilitate payments or provide you services. In some cases, payments from the account or payouts to the account may fail entirely if your bank issues tokenized (also known as “substitute”) account numbers.
