# Will a Stripe App have access to my data?

A Stripe app may request access to your data to allow it to function as designed. Before you install an app, you’ll be shown the list of permissions you are granting the app including what types of your data the app will access.
Once you have granted permissions to an app, that app will be able to read and/or modify any data it has permissions to access, even when the app is not in use.
An app will never be able to read or modify data you have not given permissions for.
In addition, some apps may share your data with third parties to provide you with the requested service. These third parties will be listed on the app’s installation page under **External Access**.
