# Video KYC for India onboarding

Effective January 1, 2026, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has revised its Payment Aggregator guidelines to mandate liveness checks for all new users onboarding to Stripe. These will be conducted via a live video KYC ("Know Your Customer") call.
### When does the video KYC call happen?
Stripe services are invite-only in India. Businesses from India cannot sign up for a new Stripe account through our website, and instead need to [request an invite](https://stripe.com/in/contact/sales). Learn more about Stripe accounts in India.
Once you've been invited and have submitted all of the requested information, we'll send an email request to complete a video KYC session with a Stripe representative as part of your application review.
After you complete the self-serve onboarding process in the Dashboard and initial verifications have been done, you'll see a status message: "[Name of owner/director] needs to complete Video KYC to comply with RBI guidelines. We've sent them a link via E-Mail to get them started."
Each owner or director that's been added by you in the onboarding process will receive an email with a unique link to initiate the video KYC call process.
### Which e-mail will send link and where will I be redirected to?
* You will get an e-mail from `notifications@india-vkyc.stripe.com`.
The email will include a button to start your video KYC process that will take you to a URL starting with `vkyc.stripe.in`.
### What can I expect after clicking on the link?
* After clicking the link in the email, you'll be prompted to enter your PAN and Aadhaar DigiLocker credentials to fetch PAN and Aadhar details from government registries. If you don't have your DigiLocker details, you can manually upload your Aadhar card or Voter ID card.
* Once your PAN and Aadhar or Voter ID details are entered, you can start the video call right away, if within business hours and subject to agent availability, or schedule a call for a later time. A Stripe agent will join the call and request to see your PAN card and ask a few questions to complete the liveness check.
* The whole process usually takes 10-15 minutes.
* After the call, we’ll do an internal review and update you on your account status, typically within 3 business days.
### What documents do I need to bring to the video KYC call?
Have the following required documents ready for your video call:
* PAN (Permanent Account Number) card
* Aadhaar card -- either via DigiLocker or manual upload
* If you don't want to submit your Aadhaar card, you can manually upload your Voter ID card
### Tips to to ensure a successful video KYC call
* Use a stable internet connection in a quiet, well-lit place
* Allow camera and microphone permissions
* Turn off your VPN, which may prevent you from joining
* Be physically located in India during the verification
* You need to complete the call yourself, with no prompting from any other person
### How do I provide Aadhaar information during the video call?
You have two options:
1. (Recommended): Log into DigiLocker through the video KYC flow to retrieve your Aadhaar details digitally
1. Manually upload a copy of your Aadhaar card
### What happens during the video call?
During the video call, the Stripe verification agent will:
* Verify your identity documents (PAN and Aadhaar)
* Cross-check your details against official records
* Conduct a liveness check to confirm you are physically present
* Ask you to show your PAN card on camera
### What happens if my call drops before it's completed?
If your video KYC call gets disconnected, you can restart the call anytime using the link shared over e-mail. However, you'll need to restart the video KYC call from the begining, since the entire video call needs to be in one single session, per RBI guidelines.
### What happens after the verification call is complete ?
After the video KYC call is complete, we'll review your documents and get back to you with a status update within 3 business days.
### Can I reschedule my video KYC call?
Yes. You can reschedule at any time if you're not ready or if an agent isn't available.
### What if I don't have DigiLocker access?
You can manually upload a copy of your Aadhaar card or Voter ID instead.
### What happens if my video KYC is rejected?
You'll receive an email with the reason and instructions on how to retry the verification process.
### Who do I contact if I have any questions during the video KYC process?
For any clarifications, you can reach out to [Stripe Support](https://support.stripe.com/contact/login) or contact your Stripe Account Executive.
