# Verification of Payee support for incoming SEPA bank transfer payments

## What is Verification of Payee (VoP)?
Verification of Payee (VoP) is a new regulation launching in October 2025 for SEPA payments that helps prevent fraud and misdirected payments. When a customer initiates a bank transfer, VoP requires that we check whether the account holder name provided by the sender matches the name registered with the receiving account. This verification happens in real-time before the payment is processed, helping ensure payments reach their intended recipient.
## How Stripe is addressing VoP for incoming bank transfer payments
Stripe has implemented VoP to ensure your incoming bank transfer payments continue to process smoothly under the new regulation.
### Ensure successful payment matching
To ensure VoP returns a match and your payments process successfully, customers should send payments using the exact business name as it appears in your Stripe account.
Where to find your account holder name:
* In your Stripe Dashboard:
  * Navigate to Business details under Settings
  * Look for the **Business Name** (or **Account Representative** name for sole proprietor businesses)
  * This is the exact name that should be used for incoming bank transfers
### Connect Consideration
For platforms using destination charges, the platform business name will serve as the account holder name (similar to what is shown in the [funding instructions](https://docs.stripe.com/payments/customer-balance/funding-instructions)).
### Customers using VBANs in Belgium
If your customers are sending payments using Stripe's BE IBANs (IBANs with the following format BEXXXXXX), we recommend advising customers that they may skip any payee verification warning, after manually verifying that all details of the transaction are correct. We are working with our banking partner to define the user experience to encourage exact matches for BE VBANs and will have a path forward by 7 November 2025.
### Best practices for your customers
* Always use the exact account holder name as provided in Stripe's funding instructions
* Double-check spelling and formatting before initiating the transfer
* Contact you directly if they're unsure about any account details
### What happens if there's a mismatch?
If the account holder name provided doesn't match Stripe's records, the payment may be:
* Delayed for manual review
* Returned to the sender
* Subject to additional verification steps
