# Using Terminal in attended, semi-attended, and unattended retail environments

Stripe Terminal’s pre-certified card readers and Tap to Pay support attended and semi-attended retail environments. For unattended retail environments, Stripe Terminal offers the [Verifone UX700](https://docs.stripe.com/terminal/payments/setup-reader/ux700). This article explains the difference between these environment types.
## Attended and semi-attended environments
Terminal supports these environments.
Attended retail environments have staff available to help customers, either at each device or elsewhere at the location. This includes semi-attended environments, where customers interact with the card reader independently but staff are available in the store or nearby if needed.
* Traditional point of purchase or mobile point of purchase with a staff member stationed at, or roaming with a mobile card reader.
* Self-service kiosk with roaming employees nearby at the location, but not one per kiosk.
  * Examples: Grocery self-checkout, movie theater ticketing kiosk, standalone kiosk at a quick-service restaurant, music festival that has 20 self-service kiosks for food wristbands with one staff member nearby.
## Unattended environments
The [Verifone UX700](https://docs.stripe.com/terminal/payments/setup-reader/ux700) is the only unattended device offered through Terminal. If you’re interested in using the Verifone UX700, contact our [Sales team](https://stripe.com/contact/sales).
Unattended retail environments do not have staff on site to help customers if needed. They can also include permanent outdoor devices designed to operate in varying weather conditions.
* ATMs (automated teller machines)
* Vending machines
* Dispensing machines
* Toll booths
* Parking meters
