# Update your connected account’s 1099 tax form details

This article is for platforms or marketplaces using Connect to file and deliver 1099 tax forms for their connected accounts.
---
Platforms can update information for a connected account by editing the account in the Dashboard or calling the [update account](https://docs.stripe.com/api/accounts/update) API.
Only changes made before the mid-February deadline automatically populate 1099 tax forms. Review the [tax season checklist](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/get-started-tax-reporting) to determine the deadline for connected account changes.
Changes made after this date will not be reflected on connected accounts’ tax forms. To make changes after the deadline, [import the updated information via a CSV file](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/modify-tax-forms?method=csv#import-tax-forms). Importing information into a connected account's tax form will not affect that account's verification status in Stripe.
To change an account’s tax form but not their account info, [import a CSV file](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/modify-tax-forms?method=csv) with the updated information. Consider updating the connected account with the same information for future tax years.
## How can my connected accounts update their own info?
Certain Connect integrations allow connected accounts to update their own tax info. Connected accounts must submit updates before [mid-February](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/get-started-tax-reporting) for them to appear on their tax forms.
* For connected accounts that do not have Stripe-hosted dashboard access, the platform can update information through the Stripe Dashboard or by calling the [update account](https://docs.stripe.com/api/accounts/update) API.
* For connected accounts with Stripe Express Dashboard access, the account holder can update account information via Stripe Express.
* For connected accounts that interact with Connect Embedded Components, the account holder can [update account information](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/supported-embedded-components/account-management) via the account management component.
## Use business tax details instead of personal tax details for 1099 tax reporting
Some connected accounts set up as Single Member LLCs or sole proprietorships might want to use their business tax details for 1099 reporting instead of their personal tax details.
Once tax form totals are finalized in January, update your connected account’s 1099 tax forms via a [CSV import](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/modify-tax-forms?method=csv#import-tax-forms) or the [Tax Form Editor](https://stripe.com/docs/connect/modify-tax-forms). You can also do this after filing by submitting a correction.
While you can use both tools before forms are finalized, doing so stops identity changes from automatically updating tax forms. For example, if your connected account updates their address after you’ve updated their 1099 form via a CSV import, their form won’t automatically reflect the new address.

## My connected account submitted a form W-8 by accident and needs a 1099 form
A Form W-8 is generally used by non-U.S. individuals and businesses to confirm they aren’t a U.S. Person and thus not subject to U.S. taxation. If the most recent form on file for your connected account is a W-8, they won’t automatically receive a 1099.
You should consult your tax advisor to confirm your connected account needs a 1099 form.
### If you have access to Stripe’s [Connect W-8 and W-9 private preview product](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/connect-w8-w9-onboarding) and the [mid-February deadline](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/get-started-tax-reporting) hasn’t passed:
1. Send your connected account the Stripe-hosted W-9 request from the Dashboard or via the Accounts API. Ask the account holder to open the link and complete the W-9 request. Review and accept the W-9 if appropriate.
1. Confirm a certified W-9 is on the account.
1. Verify the account now has a 1099. 1099s can take around 24 hours to generate.
### If you don’t have access to the [Connect W-8 and W-9 product](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/connect-w8-w9-onboarding) or the [mid-February deadline](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/get-started-tax-reporting) has passed:
1. Prep your CSV file using [Stripe’s 1099 CSV schema](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/modify-tax-forms?method=csv#1099-csv-schema), adding the connected account you want to generate the form for. [Exporting a file](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/modify-tax-forms?method=csv) to edit first can make the process easier.
1. Go to your Dashboard > **Tax Forms** page and click **Import**.
1. Select [**Update**](https://docs.stripe.com/connect/modify-tax-forms?method=csv#overwriting-existing-values-with-update) to import your CSV.
   * Performing an Update import automatically creates a new form when your connected account doesn’t already have a tax form.
1. Verify the account now has a 1099 present. 1099s can take around 24 hours to generate.
