# Update account name shown in the Dashboard

You can update the account name shown on your Dashboard by updating it in [Account Settings](https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/account).
## Business name settings
Stripe has two separate settings that control how your business name appears:
- **Account name** (in [Account Settings](https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/account)): Controls what you see in the Dashboard for internal use only. This does not affect what customers see.
- **Statement descriptor** (in [Public Details → Business Settings](https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/public)): Controls what appears on customer credit card statements and email receipts. This is what your customers see.
## Update your account name (Dashboard only)
To change the account name shown in the Dashboard:
1. Go to [Account Settings](https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/account)
1. Update the **Account name** field
1. Save changes
If you have multiple Stripe accounts, you can only edit the account you're currently viewing in the Dashboard.
This change only affects what you see internally. It doesn't change what appears on customer receipts or bank statements.
## Update what customers see on receipts
To change what appears on customer receipts and bank statements, you need to update your statement descriptor. See What is a statement descriptor and how do I update it?.
