Understanding the bank account number on customer’s bank statement after a bank-based payment is made

After a customer makes a payment with a Bank Debit or Bank Redirect Payment Method like:

  • SEPA Direct Debit

  • Bancontact

  • Giropay

  • iDEAL

  • P24

  • SOFORT

they will sometimes see a bank account number on their bank statement which indicates where their payment was deposited. This bank account number does not accept payments and is not a bank account associated directly with the payee merchant’s Stripe account. It is important that the customer does not send a bank transfer to this bank account number in attempts of making another payment to the merchant. Instead, they must complete the merchant’s checkout process to properly initiate the Bank Debit or Bank Redirect payment.

If a customer accidentally sent funds to this account number, they should contact support.
