# Text message (SMS) verification code isn’t working for two-step authentication

### Need to update your phone number?
You can change the phone number where SMS verification codes are sent.
### Not receiving any SMS verification codes?
* Wait up to 10 minutes for the verification code to arrive, delivery times can vary.
* Request a new code.
* If neither of these methods work, sign in using your backup code or remove two-step authentication from your account.
### Receiving an incorrect SMS verification code?
If the system says the verification code you entered is incorrect, request a new code and enter it as soon as it’s received. Codes expire after a short time for security purposes.
### SMS verification code taking too long to deliver?
Restart your phone to refresh network connectivity and try two-step authentication again.
### Locked out and need to access your account immediately?
You can sign in using your backup code or remove two-step authentication from your account.
### Want to add a secondary two-step authentication method?
To safeguard against future SMS issues, you can enable an authenticator app as a secondary two-step authentication method.
