# Using Terminal in attended and semi-attended retail environments

Stripe Terminal's pre-certified card readers and Tap to Pay support attended and semi-attended retail environments but don't support unattended. This article explains the difference between those environment types.
## Attended and semi-attended retail environments
Terminal supports these environments.
Attended means staff support is available, either per device or per location. This includes semi-attended scenarios, where a customer independently interacts with the card reader, but staff may be available in the store or nearby if needed.
* Traditional point of purchase or mobile point of purchase with a staff member stationed at, or roaming with a mobile card reader.
* Self-service kiosk with roaming employees nearby at the location, but not one per kiosk.
  * Examples: Grocery self-checkout, movie theater ticketing kiosk, standalone kiosk at a quick-service restaurant, music festival that has 20 self-service kiosks for food wristbands with one staff member nearby.
## Unattended retail environments
Verifone UX700 is Terminal's only attended device. Learn more about the [Verifone UX700](https://docs.stripe.com/terminal/payments/setup-reader/ux700).
Unattended means no staff is on location to help the customer if needed. This also includes permanent outdoor devices designed for varying weather conditions.
* ATMs (automated teller machines)
* Vending machines
* Dispensing machines
* Toll booths
* Parking meters
