We updated our [Stripe Services Agreement](https://stripe.com/legal/ssa) on September 28, 2026. You can find a summary of the most notable changes, when the changes take effect, and more information below.
We’ve also updated our Privacy Policy, which takes effect on November 20, 2026. You can [preview the updated Privacy Policy](https://stripe.com/privacy/preview).
## When do the updated terms apply?
The updated terms take effect immediately for new Stripe users who sign up on or after **September 28, 2026**.
For existing Stripe users, the updated terms will take effect on:
* **September 28, 2026** with respect to new Stripe services reflected in the updated Service Terms
* **January 6, 2027** with respect to changes to the General Terms, and to the Service Terms to the extent those changes materially impact users’ use of existing services
## What is changing?
As we grow our product suite and expand our global coverage, we’re streamlining our legal terms to make them more concise and easier to understand and navigate.
Here is a summary of the most notable changes to the terms:
* **AI Agent Responsibility:** As our users increasingly integrate automated systems, we’ve introduced specific terms covering AI Agents that access Stripe Services, clarifying that users remain responsible for all actions initiated by or through an AI Agent operating on their account.
* **Stripe Atlas:** We’ve moved the standalone Stripe Atlas Terms of Service into the Stripe Services Agreement as Service Terms, so founders can get up and running on Stripe faster.
* **Additional Services Terms:** To provide greater clarity and transparency about the terms that apply to our growing service offering, we’ve added specific Service Terms for the following services:
  * Stripe Agentic Commerce Agent Services
  * Stripe Agentic Commerce Seller Services
  * Stripe Billing
  * Stripe Financial Connections
  * Financial Connections Security Addendum
  * Stripe Payments
  * Stripe Global Payouts Fiat
  * Stripe Global Payouts Stablecoin
  * Stripe Stablecoin Treasury
  * Stripe Managed Payments
  * Stripe Next-Day Settlement
* **Data Processing Agreement (DPA):** We’ve updated our [Data Processing Agreement](https://stripe.com/legal/dpa).
* **Link:** We’ve updated our [Link Payment Method Terms](https://stripe.com/legal/link).
## What if I don’t want to agree to the updated terms?
If you do not agree to the updated terms, you will need to stop using Stripe services and close your Stripe account before these terms become effective. If you have a Stripe Dashboard, you can close your account by following these instructions: Close a Stripe account. If your Stripe account is integrated with a Stripe Connect Platform and you don’t have a Stripe Dashboard, you must contact your Stripe Connect Platform to close your account. Your use of the Stripe services after the applicable effective date will be subject to the updated terms.
## Do I need to take action to accept the updated terms?
You don’t need to take any action to accept the updated terms. Connect Platform users with Custom or Express connected accounts and other connected accounts without access to a Stripe Dashboard should follow the guidance below to notify their connected accounts.
## I’m a Connect Platform User with Custom or Express Connected Accounts, or with Connected Accounts without access to a Stripe Dashboard. What do I need to do?
You are responsible for notifying your Custom and Express connected accounts and your other connected accounts without access to a Stripe Dashboard of the updated terms by **November 7, 2026**. We suggest you use your usual method of notifying your connected accounts about important changes, such as email. We recommend you send those connected accounts a notice that includes the following information:
> _Stripe is updating its legal terms. You can read the [Connected Account Agreement, which incorporates the Stripe Services Agreement](https://stripe.com/legal/connect-account). The updated terms take effect on January 6, 2027. You don’t need to take any action, but by continuing to use Stripe’s services on or after that date, you agree to the updated terms._
If you use Connect but have no Custom or Express connected accounts or other connected accounts without access to a Stripe Dashboard, we’ve handled the communication for you by letting affected connected accounts know about the changes.
## Why did I get this notice?
When we update our legal terms, we’re required to send a legal notice to all affected Stripe users, even if you have unsubscribed from our marketing messages. As a Stripe user, you can’t unsubscribe from legal notices.
## Does this update affect other terms I have agreed to with Stripe?
You can find our updated terms, labeled with their most recent update date, at [stripe.com/legal](https://stripe.com/legal). If you have agreed to other terms with Stripe for the use of Stripe services that take precedence over these online terms, those other terms are unaffected by this change.
