# Stripe User Terms Update - November 18, 2025

We updated our [Stripe Services Agreement](http://stripe.com/legal/ssa) on November 18, 2025. As part of this update, we've also updated the [Stripe Connected Account Agreement](https://stripe.com/legal/connect-account) (applicable to connected accounts). Find a summary of the most notable changes, when the changes take effect, and more information below.
We’ve also updated our Privacy Policy taking effect on January 16, 2026. Preview the [updates](https://stripe.com/privacy/preview).
### When do the updated terms apply?
The updated terms take effect immediately for new Stripe users who sign up on or after **November 18, 2025**.
For most existing Stripe users, the updated terms will take effect on **March 1, 2026**.
_Exception_: If your notification specified that the terms take effect on **May 1, 2026**, then that is your effective date.
### What is changing?
As we grow our product suite and expand our global coverage, we’re streamlining our legal terms to make them more concise and easier to understand and navigate.
Here's a summary of the most notable changes to the terms:
* **Global by Design**: To make it easier for users to expand to new territories, we’ve restructured our terms into a single set of clear and consistent General Terms that apply globally, with embedded Regional Terms that contain country-specific provisions, and a clear list of the Stripe contracting entity in each location.
* **Consolidated Financial Services Terms**: As the General Terms contain provisions applicable to all Stripe Services, we’ve relocated certain terms applicable only to a sub-set of Stripe Services (which mostly involve money movement) into a new set of Stripe Financial Services Terms, enabling users to more easily understand their contractual relationship with Stripe.
* **Additional Services Terms**: To drive greater clarity and transparency on the terms that apply to our growing service offering, we’ve added specific Service Terms for the following services:
  * Stripe Billing
  * Stripe Invoicing
  * Stripe Treasury
  * Stripe Orchestration Services
  * Stripe Revenue Recognition
  * Stripe Global Payouts
* **Improvements**: We have made several key improvements, including:
  * Increasing the liability cap to 12 months’ fees to more closely align with market expectations; and
  * Increasing user confidentiality protections.
* **DPA**: We’ve also updated our [Data Processing Agreement](https://stripe.com/legal/dpa).
* **Entity Conversion**: On January 5, 2026, Stripe, Inc., our contracting entity in the US, converted to Stripe, LLC.
### What if I don’t want to agree to the updated terms?
If you don't agree to the updated terms, you'll need to stop using Stripe services and close your Stripe account before these terms become effective. If you have a Stripe Dashboard, you can close your account by following these instructions. If your Stripe account is integrated with a Stripe Connect Platform and you don’t have a Stripe Dashboard, you must contact your Stripe Connect Platform to close your account. Your use of the Stripe services after the applicable effective date will be subject to the updated terms.
### Do I need to take action to accept the updated terms?
You don’t need to take any action to accept the new terms. Connect Platform users with Custom or Express connected accounts and other connected accounts without access to a Stripe Dashboard should follow the guidance below to notify their connected accounts.
### I’m a Connect Platform User with Custom or Express Connected Accounts, or with Connected Accounts without access to a Stripe Dashboard. What do I need to do?
**Connect Platform Users with Custom or Express Connected Accounts, or with other Connected Accounts without access to a Stripe Dashboard**:
You’re responsible for notifying your Custom and Express connected accounts and your other connected accounts without access to a Stripe Dashboard of the updated terms by **December 31, 2025**, unless you were notified otherwise. We suggest you use your usual method of updating your connected accounts about important changes (for example, by email). We recommend you send those connected accounts a notice that includes the following information:
> _Stripe is updating its legal terms. You can read the [Connected Account Agreement](https://stripe.com/legal/connect-account), which incorporates the Stripe Services Agreement. The updates to the terms will take effect on March 1, 2026. No action is needed from you, but by continuing to use Stripe’s services on or after that date, you’re agreeing to these updated terms._
_Exception_: If you received a notification indicating that you’re responsible for notifying your Custom and Express connected accounts and your other connected accounts without access to a Stripe Dashboard of the updated terms by **February 28, 2026**, then notify your connected accounts in accordance with that date. We recommend you send those connected accounts a notice that includes the following information:
> _Stripe is updating its legal terms. You can read the [Connected Account Agreement](https://stripe.com/legal/connect-account), which incorporates the Stripe Services Agreement. The updates to the terms will take effect on May 1, 2026. No action is needed from you, but by continuing to use Stripe’s services on or after that date, you’re agreeing to these updated terms._
If you use Connect but have no Custom or Express connected accounts or other connected accounts without access to a Stripe Dashboard, we’ve handled the communication for you by letting affected connected accounts know about the changes.
### Why did I get this notice?
When we update our legal terms, we’re required to send a legal notice to all affected Stripe users — even if you have unsubscribed from our marketing messages. As a Stripe user, you can’t unsubscribe from legal notices.
### Does this update affect other terms I have agreed to with Stripe?
You can find our updated terms which are labeled with their most recent update date at [stripe.com/legal](http://stripe.com/legal).
