# Stripe Reader M2

**Availability: US only**
The Stripe Reader M2 is a mobile card reader that accepts EMV chip, contactless, and swipe payments. This article covers setup requirements, connectivity, and troubleshooting for the M2.
## Get started
### Requirements
* iOS SDK 2.1.0 (or later) or Android SDK 2.1.0 (or later)
  * When using these SDK versions, the M2 appears as an available reader during the `discoverReaders` call.
### Connectivity
The M2 is battery-powered and supports two connection methods:
- Bluetooth (iOS and Android): Connect through your point-of-sale (POS) application's settings, not your device's Bluetooth settings.
- [USB](https://stripe.com/docs/terminal/payments/connect-reader?reader-type=usb) (Android only)
### Accessories
Optional [Stripe-designed accessories](https://stripe.com/terminal/m2#accessories) let you mount the M2 to a phone or tablet, or place it on a countertop.
### Regional availability
The M2 only supports PINless transactions, so it's not available outside the US. Many markets, including the United Kingdom and Ireland, require PIN support
For non-US regions, see Stripe's [other mobile readers](https://stripe.com/terminal/devices).
### Battery life
With typical usage, the M2 needs one full charge per day. A single charge supports about 800 contactless (NFC) and 1,200 contact (chip) transactions.
## Troubleshooting
### What do the LED status lights mean?
The [LED lights](https://docs.stripe.com/terminal/readers/stripe-m2#connectivity-and-reader-status) move from left to right and right to left when the reader is powered on but not connected to your POS device. The pattern stops once the reader connects. This behavior is the same for both Bluetooth and USB connections.
### My device won't turn on.
1. Check the reader for physical damage.
1. Charge the reader by plugging it into a wall outlet.
1. Let the reader to charge for 30 minutes, then try turning it on by pressing the power button for a few seconds.
1. If the status lights don't turn on after you press the power button, try a different power outlet to charge the device.
1. Use a paperclip to reset the device using the reset button on the back of the reader, near the USB port. Wait two minutes and try powering on the reader again.
