# Stripe Apps Terms Update - April 2026

We've updated the Stripe Apps agreement to reflect new features, simplify requirements, and provide clearer terms for developers building on the Stripe platform. Below is a summary of the most notable changes, when they take effect, and what you need to know.
## What's changing?
Stripe is introducing an updated Stripe Apps Agreement that consolidates and replaces the prior Stripe Apps Developer Agreement, Stripe App Marketplace Agreement, and incorporates the new Stripe Apps Provisioning Agreement into a single agreement.
This update includes a few substantive changes to developer permissions, expanded platform capabilities, and new terms for Stripe Provisioning Services.
## Summary of notable changes
### 1. Payment processing exclusivity requirement removed
We have removed the requirement that app developers must process payments triggered by core app functionality on Stripe. Previously, developers were required to use Stripe for payments unless another processor was approved in writing. This restriction has been eliminated, giving developers more flexibility in how they build and monetize their apps.
### 2. Expanded scope of Covered Services
The definition of "**Covered Services**" has been broadened to include:
- **Stripe Apps** — the platform for building and running apps
- **Stripe Apps Marketplace** — the distribution and discovery channel for apps
- **Stripe Provisioning Services (new)** — services that enable providers to offer their products to customers directly through Stripe Apps
This expanded definition means the agreement now governs a wider set of capabilities available to developers.
### 3. New Stripe Provisioning Services terms
The updated agreement introduces an entirely new **Provisioning Services Public Preview Terms**, which govern how Providers can offer their services to end users through Stripe Apps and [Stripe Projects](https://docs.stripe.com/projects/provider-intake). Key provisions include:
**Customer Permissions**
Providers must ensure they have obtained all necessary rights, permissions, and consents to receive and enable Provisioning Actions on behalf of customers.
**Shared Payment Tokens**
When Stripe initiates a checkout session on a customer's behalf, providers may not access or use payment data received via a Shared Payment Token except as necessary for post-transaction customer engagement, and may not use revoked tokens.
**Provisioning Data Restrictions**
Providers are prohibited from:
- Selling Provisioning Data
- Using Provisioning Data for advertising or marketing unrelated to the requested Provider Services
- Using Provisioning Data in a manner that would classify it as a "consumer report" under applicable law
- Retaining Provisioning Data longer than necessary, except as required by law
**Provider Obligations**
Providers must submit complete, accurate pricing information and keep it current. Pricing must be consistent with what is publicly available on the provider's own channels.
**Tax and Marketplace Facilitator Terms**
In certain jurisdictions, Stripe will serve as the marketplace facilitator for Providers. Providers must provide Stripe certain information including selecting a PTC, so that Stripe can collect and remit taxes on the sale of services to end users.
**Preview Fees**
Stripe does not currently charge fees to access the Provisioning Services during the Preview period but reserves the right to implement fees with notice.
### 4. More time for breach notifications
The updated agreement lengthens the time Developers have to report data and security breaches to Stripe.
## When do these changes take effect?
These changes will take effect on **April 27, 2026**. By continuing to develop, list, or distribute a Stripe App after this date, you agree to the updated Stripe Apps Unified Agreement.
## What do I need to do?
Review the updated agreement. We encourage you to review the full Stripe Apps Agreement, available at [stripe.com/legal](https://stripe.com/legal).
If you use Provisioning Services: Review the new terms, including your obligations around pricing accuracy, customer permissions, Shared Payment Tokens, and Provisioning Data restrictions. If you're not a Provider, these terms do not apply to you.
