# Signing up for Stripe as a sole proprietor without employer ID number

If you are a sole proprietor, you can indicate if you have a federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) in the [account activation form](https://dashboard.stripe.com/account/details). If you do not have an EIN, or if you would rather use your Social Security Number (SSN) instead, select the option that your business **does not** have an EIN.
