# Can’t complete two-step authentication?

You have several options to temporarily remove two-step authentication. **Read these options carefully to regain access to your account as quickly as possible**.

### Use your backup code
Check if you still have your backup code. This is the easiest way to remove two-step authentication, whether or not you're an account owner.
1. [Sign in](https://dashboard.stripe.com/login) using your email and password.
1. When prompted to complete two-step authentication, click **Sign in another way**.
1. On the two-step authentication selection screen, click **I don't have any of these**.
1. Enter your backup code. This will remove two-step authentication.
### Reset two-step authentication
Don’t have your backup code and still can’t complete two-step authentication? Follow these steps depending on whether you're an account owner.
**If you’re an account owner:**
1. Submit an [account recovery request](https://dashboard.stripe.com/recover) to prove your identity as the account owner.
1. Wait for a decision on your case, which may take up to a couple of business days.
   * If your request is approved, we'll send you an email with a special link to complete the recovery process. Be sure to click this link within 48 hours.
   * If your request is rejected, we'll send you an email with additional options you can use to recover your account if you're eligible. Read this email carefully and try the options it recommends.

**If you’re not an account owner:**
1. Contact an account administrator—they can reset your two-step authentication on the [Team settings page](https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/team). If you're not sure who to contact, try reaching out to the person who invited you to the account.
1. Wait for an email with a special link to complete the recovery process.
1. [Sign in](https://dashboard.stripe.com/login) using your email and password.
