# Requirement to link point-of-sale terminals with cash registers in Italy

_The information presented is not legal advice, and is not to be acted on as such. If you have further questions which are specific to your business, we recommend that you speak to a legal advisor._
## What is the requirement?
As of January 1, 2026, all Italian businesses who are required to issue electronic receipts and accept electronic payments must link their point-of-sale (POS) terminals with their cash registers (Registratore Telematico), per the 2025 Budget Law.
Any device used to accept in-person payments must be linked through a digital registration, including [Stripe Terminal readers](https://stripe.com/terminal/devices) and [Tap to Pay](https://stripe.com/terminal/tap-to-pay).
This requirement may also apply to other payment types, such as online payments, where businesses must issue electronic receipts. Consult a legal advisor to determine whether this applies to your business.
## How do I perform this linking?
The Revenue Agency provides web functionality through the [Fatture e Corrispettivi](https://ivaservizi.agenziaentrate.gov.it/portale) (Invoices and Revenues) portal, where merchants can register the serial numbers of each point-of-sale terminal, such as a Stripe Terminal reader, in combination with the serial number of each revenue certification instrument.
For existing POS terminals, you must link each device with a cash register within 45 days from web service availability. For point-of-sale terminals activated after January 31, 2026, the required linking with a cash register must be completed between the 6th day and the last working day of the second month after its first use. For instance, a new POS terminal first used on February 1 must be linked between April 6 and April 30.
## How do I obtain the relevant serial numbers for payments processed through Stripe?
For Stripe Terminal readers, you can find the serial numbers on each device. You can also access serial numbers through the Stripe Dashboard or the API for all Terminal readers, including Tap to Pay. For Tap to Pay devices, you must use the Dashboard or API to obtain the serial number.
* If you're using the Dashboard, you can view and export serial numbers by location on the [Readers](https://dashboard.stripe.com/terminal/readers) tab of the Terminal page.
* If you're using the API, you can use the `serial_number` parameter on the [Terminal Reader object](https://docs.stripe.com/api/terminal/readers/object).
If you're a Connect platform, ensure that you make the Terminal serial numbers available to your connected accounts.
If you're required to provide a serial number for your online payments, provide your [Stripe account ID](https://docs.stripe.com/get-started/account).
## Which acquirer do I select in the Revenue Agency portal?
For payments processed via Stripe, select Stripe Technology Europe, Limited as the Acquirer.
If you don't see this option, you can add it manually with the following details:
