# Reconciliation process update due to Tax Invoice transition

Starting August 2026 Tax Invoice, we are gradually updating how fees are logged on Tax Invoices for Stripe fees. For more information on this change, see August 2026 updates to Tax Invoice for Stripe fees
Fees are now included in the Tax Invoice based on the date they were finalised in Stripe's system, rather than when your fee was processed to your Stripe account balance. As a result, some fees could fall in a different invoice month than they would have previously.

## Updates to the reconciliation process
To adapt to this change, users who previously relied on the Balance Summary Report for Tax invoice reconciliation will need to update their workflow. This may involve pairing the Balance Summary Report with Fees Report, as well as updating their Data Pipelines, Sigma queries, or API integrations. For detailed guidance on reconciliation, review the following sections:
- [Reconciling your Tax Invoice using the Dashboard](#reconcile-using-dashboard)
- [Reconciling your Tax Invoice using Sigma and Stripe Data Pipeline](#reconcile-using-sigma)
- [Reconciling your Tax Invoice using Reports API](#reconcile-using-api)
Additional enhancements designed to streamline the reconciliation process are currently in development and are scheduled for release by the end of November.
Moving forward, the totals across these Balance Summary Report and Tax Invoice will not match. We want to stress that the data presented in both reports is fully accurate—the difference stems solely from how events are logged.

## Reconciling your Tax Invoice using the Dashboard
Because the Balance Summary Report relies on the fee settlement date while Tax Invoices now reflect when fees are finalized in Stripe's system, users who previously used the Balance Summary Report for Tax Invoice reconciliation will need to adjust their reconciliation procedures.
We're developing enhancements to simplify the reconciliation process, which are scheduled for release by the end of November. Meanwhile, you can reconcile the Balance Summary Report with your Tax Invoice by downloading the Fees Report.
### **Step 1: Download the Fees Report**
1. Go to **Reports > All fees**.
1. Change the **Date** filter to the **Invoice** filter.
1. Select the month matching the **Service Month** on your invoice.
1. Click **Export > Download to system**.
1. Set **Report format** to **Itemised** and **Currency** to **All currencies**.
### **Step 2: Download the Balance Summary Report**
1. Go to **Reports > Balances**.
1. Set the report time zone to **UTC**.
1. Adjust the **Date Range** to span from the Tax Invoice Service Month through the fifth day of the following month.
1. Scroll to **Balance change from activity > Download**.
1. Set **Report format** to **Itemised**, **Reporting category** to **All**, and **Columns** to **All**.
### **Step 3: Match the two reports**
Open both exports and match rows using the `balance_transaction_id` column, which appears in both.
- Match result
- What it means
---
- Row appears in both reports
- Fee was incurred and settled in the same month—appears on both the invoice and as a balance deduction
---
- Row in Fees Report only
- Service was incurred this month, but the fee has not yet settled on your account
---
- Row in Balance Summary Report only
- Fee settled this month, but the service was incurred in a prior month—not included in this invoice
