# Payment method sharing

## What is payment method sharing?
Some businesses operate multiple brands or companies. For example, a business might run a ride-sharing service, a delivery service, and a repair service as separate business units, each of which might have a separate Stripe account. If such a business uses Stripe to process payments, they can choose to form a Stripe organization, which includes all their Stripe accounts.
Payment method sharing allows them to share your saved payment information across their Stripe accounts within their Stripe organization, after receiving your consent to do so. This means that, when you save your payment details (like a credit card) with one of their business units and you agree to payment method sharing, those details are available to other business units in the same organization. That way you don't have to re-enter your payment information when you shop with a related brand.
## What information is shared?
When a business enables payment method sharing, the following information may be made available to other accounts within the same organization:
* **Contact information:** Your name, email address, phone number, billing address, and shipping address
* **Saved payment methods:** Payment methods such as credit and debit cards (including cards added through Apple Pay or Google Pay), ACH bank accounts, and SEPA bank accounts
Your payment transaction history (what you bought, when, and for how much) isn't shared. Each business can only see its own transactions with you.
## Why does this happen?
Payment method sharing is designed to make your experience more convenient across a family of related businesses. Without it, you'd need to re-enter your payment method details every time you made a purchase with a new brand, even if it's owned by the same company.
For example, if "Rocket Rides" and "Rocket Deliveries" are part of the same organization, and you've already saved your card with Rocket Rides, you could check out on Rocket Deliveries without entering your card details again.
## What can a business do with my shared payment information?
Once your payment information is shared within an organization, any business in that organization can:
* Charge your saved payment method for purchases you make with them
* Set up recurring charges or subscriptions using your saved payment method
* Update your contact information (such as your email address or billing address), and that update will sync across all businesses in the organization
## Does the business need to obtain my consent for payment method sharing?
Yes. Businesses are required to obtain your consent before sharing your payment information with other businesses in their organization. This consent should be collected by the business directly, typically during account creation, checkout, or as part of a separate privacy or data-sharing notice. **Stripe does not collect this consent on the business' behalf.**
If you're unsure whether you've given consent, or if you'd like to review what you agreed to, check the terms of service or privacy policy of the business you originally provided your payment details to.
## Is my payment information secure?
Yes. Stripe securely stores your payment information on behalf of the businesses in the organization. Sharing happens only within the specific group of businesses that have been configured to share data. Your payment details are never shared with unrelated businesses or third parties outside of that organization.
## What if I have questions or want to stop sharing my information?
Stripe processes your payment information on behalf of the businesses you transact with. If you have questions about how your data is being used, or if you'd like to request that your payment information be removed or no longer shared, contact the business directly. Their privacy policy will explain how to submit a data request.
For more information on how Stripe handles your data, see the [Stripe Privacy Policy](https://stripe.com/privacy).
