# Liability shift for Apple Pay charges

Apple Pay supports [liability shift](/questions/liability-shift-with-frictionless-flow-for-3d-secure-v2-3ds2) globally for all the major networks with the following exceptions:
* For Visa, liability shift is supported globally for devices running iOS 16.2 and above.
* For Visa, liability shift support is only available for cards issued in Europe for devices running on versions below iOS 16.2.
Liability shift applies only to the initial customer-initiated transactions (CITs). It is not available for [merchant-initiated transactions](/questions/merchant-initiated-transactions-%28mits%29-when-to-categorize-a-transaction-as-mit) (MITs) since the cardholder is not present on-session for biometrics authentication. Consequently, we strongly advise against processing subsequent card-on-file transactions using Apple Pay. We recommend bringing the customer on-session by presenting the Apple Pay payment sheet again following [the Apple Pay integration guidelines](https://stripe.com/docs/apple-pay). This will create a new payment method that qualifies as a CIT, thereby supporting liability shift.
