Stripe is changing how we handle currency conversion fees for refunds.
Currently, Stripe charges a currency conversion fee and returns it if the transaction is refunded. Starting October 15th, 2023, we will no longer return the currency conversion fee to you for refunded transactions. You can view your refunds in the Dashboard.
Stripe enables you to accept money from customers in 135+ currencies and automatically convert purchases into your primary currency. In order to convert currencies, Stripe incurs fees from third-party partners.
When a converted transaction is refunded, Stripe converts the refunded transaction back into the purchaser's original currency. Historically, Stripe has been covering the costs to do so on behalf of users. To account for the conversion cost, we will no longer return the currency conversion fee applied to the original transaction.
The best way to approximate the impact these changes might have to your business is to use the Stripe Dashboard.
This support page provides you with more details on the notice we sent you describing changes to certain fees. That notice is a legal notice sent to Stripe users, even those who have unsubscribed from optional marketing notices. You cannot unsubscribe from legal notices, but if you’d prefer not to receive any further legal notices from Stripe, you can close your account by following these steps.
Your continued use of Stripe's services after October 15th is subject to these fee changes. Any termination rights you have under your agreement with us are unaffected by this change.
There’s no action necessary for you at this time and these changes will automatically apply to your business and / or your connected accounts on October 15, 2023.
If you have questions beyond what's detailed above, please reach out to the Stripe team.
