# Form W-9 and Form 4669

A Form W-9 is generally used to confirm the tax identification number (TIN) of a U.S. Person. Stripe requires a TIN to start processing payments, but may also request a Form W-9 to verify your TIN or after you change the information on your account.
Unlike a Form W-8, Form W-9 has one version that applies to both individuals and entities.
After you submit your W-9, you can download a PDF version of the form in the [**Compliance and documents** section](https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/documents) of your Dashboard.
### Why am I being asked for additional documentation?
Stripe may request additional documentation to verify changes to certain account details, such as your name, address, tax ID, or business type. Stripe may also request additional documents if your W-9 has a name or TIN discrepancy.
Review the list of acceptable documents.
### Why can't I fill out the information for my single-member LLC?
If your company is a single-member limited liability company (LLC) that has not elected to be treated as a corporation, the [IRS requires](https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/single-member-limited-liability-companies) you to enter the information of the single owner of the LLC.
### Why are my payouts paused?
Payouts may be paused if Stripe is missing required information about your tax status or if you have other outstanding information on your account. Your account may continue to receive payments while payouts are paused, but you cannot transfer the funds to your bank account, debit card, or any other external source.
To resume payouts, submit a W-9 and complete any other outstanding requirements on your account.
## Form 4669 collected by Stripe
If you submit a Form W-9 to certify your U.S. tax residency and Stripe didn’t issue you a Form 1099-K in previous years, Stripe may ask you to review and sign a Form 4669.
Form 4669 confirms that you included the relevant payment processing volume in your prior tax returns, even though a 1099-K wasn’t issued for those years. [Learn more about the IRS requirements for Form 4669](https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4669.pdf).
Form 4669 isn't always required. Most Stripe account owners only need to complete a Form W-9.
