# European cross-border fees update due to network cost changes for Gibraltar merchants

## **What’s happening?**
On 1 July 2022, Stripe will be making changes to cross-border card transactions as a result of Brexit and card network cost changes. Please refer to the following details to understand what changes may impact your business in Gibraltar. For more information on European cross border fees outside of Gibraltar, see [this support page](/questions/european-cross-border-fees-update-due-to-network-cost-changes).
## **For Gibraltar merchants with European Economic Area (EEA) transactions**
Following Brexit, the UK and its territories are no longer subject to the EU Interchange Fee Regulation, and major card networks now consider transactions between Gibraltar and the European Economic Area [0] as cross-border payments. As a result, they have made significant increases to their [interchange rates](https://stripe.com/en-mt/guides/introduction-to-online-payments) (fees paid to issuing banks set by the card networks). Visa has implemented the new rates since October 2021 and Mastercard has announced that they are increasing rates in April 2022. Until now, Stripe has not been passing these costs to our users. In order to continue offering the same quality of experience you have come to expect from Stripe, we are updating Gibraltar’s fees effective on 1 July 2022:
-
- Prices at a glance
---
- Gibraltar business selling domestically
- 1.4% + £0.20
---
- Gibraltar business selling to EEA card holder [0]
- 2.5% + £0.20
---
- Gibraltar business selling to international card holder
- 2.9% + £0.20
## **Does this change impact my domestic transactions?**
No, this change only impacts cross-border transactions and domestic transactions (eg. Gibraltar business selling into Gibraltar cardholder) pricing remains unchanged. Please refer to the [pricing page](https://stripe.com/pricing) for the most up-to-date pricing.
## **When will these changes take effect?**
To acknowledge the inconvenience this may cause your business, we are extending the current fees on your account until 1 July 2022. Your continued use of Stripe’s services after 1 July 2022 is subject to these updated terms. Any termination rights you have under your agreement with us are unaffected by this change.
## **Do I need to take action?**
There’s no action necessary for you at this time and the fees will automatically update on 1 July 2022 if you have cross-border transactions that are subject to the price changes above.
## **How can I calculate the impact to my business?**
The best way to calculate the impact these changes might have to your business is to leverage the [Reports section](https://dashboard.stripe.com/reports/balance) of your Stripe Dashboard.
1. Go to the [Reports section](https://dashboard.stripe.com/reports/balance) of your Dashboard
1. Click on “Download” located at the top right hand of the “Balance change from activity” module
1. Export your activity to a .CSV file and ensure that “Card country” is selected as a column.
1. Review transactions processed by the countries impacted
Starting July 1, 2022 these types of transactions will be subject to the new fees.
## **How else can I accept cross-border payments?**
We recognise that these changes may impact your business especially if you conduct business internationally and remind you of options that are available to you as a Stripe user:
Local payment methods: Payment methods that don’t go through the card networks, like [SEPA Direct Debit](https://stripe.com/docs/payments/sepa-debit), [iDEAL](https://stripe.com/docs/payments/ideal), [giropay](https://stripe.com/docs/payments/giropay) and [Bancontact](https://stripe.com/docs/payments/bancontact) are available. If you have international customers, a bank debit payment method can be both cost effective and preferable to end-customers. Stripe offers a variety of local payment methods which can be quickly added to your integration. For more information, view our [payment method guide](https://stripe.com/en-de/payments/payment-methods-guide).
## **I’m a Connect Platform with users that have cross-border transactions. What do I need to do?**
If you use Connect with Standard accounts, we’ve handled the communication for you by letting affected users know about the changes in their cross-border fees. If you use Connect with Custom accounts, you are responsible for any updates to your own pricing in line with these changes, and for communicating with your users.
