# EU Buy Now Pay Later CCD2 regulation update: Changes to BNPL advertising starting Nov 20, 2026

## What is CCD2?
The [EU Consumer Credit Directive (CCD2)](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX:32023L2225) updates consumer-credit rules to reflect how customers borrow today, including through Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) products. It aims to bring these BNPL offerings within the EU’s consumer-credit framework, helping ensure customers receive clear information and appropriate protections before they enter into each buy now, pay later agreement. The directive aims to support responsible lending and create consistent consumer protections across EU member states. This directive is implemented country by country so national implementation can differ.
## What does this mean for Stripe users?
CCD2 covers a lot of ground, most of which will be the responsibility of the BNPL partner. The most relevant topics for Stripe users who offer these payment methods will relate to the marketing and promotion of BNPL products on the user's site.
If you don't advertise or promote BNPL products on your site, no advertising-related changes should be needed by you.
If your website does promote BNPL products generally or a specific BNPL product, we advise you to review all customer-facing content to ensure compliance with applicable national laws implementing CCD2 and any partner guidance. To the extent relevant, we may also update our Stripe [Payment Method Terms page](https://stripe.com/gb/legal/payment-terms) to reflect any updates to the individual payment methods.
