Frequently asked questions

What can I do with the Data Access Tool?

The Data Access Tool allows you to view some of your personal data stored by specific Stripe products. You can download your report in CSV format and request the deletion of data held by those products.

Which Stripe products are supported by the Data Access Tool?

Currently, the Data Access Tool supports Link, including data for Stripe Financial Connections and Stripe Crypto Onramp as well as data related to your Stripe Business User Account. It also supports Stripe Identity, but only when Stripe uses the product to verify your identity for its own business purposes, rather than for a third-party merchant or company verifying your identity for their purposes. For more information on requesting data deletion when a third-party merchant or company employs Stripe Identity for verifying your identity, please visit here.

How does Stripe protect my information?

After you submit a request for your data report, you'll receive a one-time code sent to your email for confirmation. Once confirmed, Stripe creates a protected report link and sends it your way. The link has an expiration date and allows only a limited number of views.

To access the report, you must answer several security questions correctly. Additionally, sensitive data like full credit card numbers and identification numbers are redacted in the report for your privacy and safety.

How do I delete my data?

Once you've got your data report, you can easily request the deletion of your data in the Data Access Tool. Just visit the "Delete your data" section. Depending on the product holding your data, you might be able to complete the deletion request on your own through the tool (e.g., Link) or it might link to product-specific deletion pages. As soon as we get your request, we'll kick off the deletion process, taking into account any requirements we have for retaining your data. You'll receive a notification email at the start and completion of the process. It typically takes less than an hour, but it could be up to 30 days. Remember, the Data Access Tool only covers data held by Stripe products that the tool supports. If you wish to delete other data that Stripe may have about you, please visit this support page or send a request by mail.

How do I correct my data?

Learn how to exercise your data subject rights, including data rectification, by visiting Stripe's Privacy Center.

Why did my report return no data?

Usually, this happens when Stripe doesn't have the email address you've provided in our records. Sometimes, the Data Access Tool can't find any data linked to the given email address and held by the supported products, or there isn't enough data available to generate security questions to ensure secure access to your data report.

Is this all my Stripe personal data?

The Data Access Tool shares some of your data from supported products, which means there could be more personal data held by Stripe. To request a comprehensive data access report, please visit our Privacy Policy for the appropriate contact email or send your request by mail.

Why can't I see all my transactions with Stripe merchants on my report?

The Data Access Tool will only show transactions made with Link. This tool isn't designed to show information from other companies about you.

When a Stripe merchant processes a transaction, they act as the "data controller" for that data. The Stripe merchant is the responsible party to respond to a data request related to your transactional information with that merchant.

What do I do if I need more help or have questions about my report?

Emails from the Data Access Tool come with a reference ID. If you need further assistance or have questions about your report, you can reach out to Stripe's privacy team at privacy@stripe.com. Just remember to provide the reference ID.
