# August 2026 updates to Tax Invoice for Stripe fees

Stripe is updating when fees appear on your Tax invoices. Starting with the August 2026 Tax Invoice, we are gradually updating how fees are logged on Taxes on Stripe fees.
---
## What's changing
- **Fee timing:** Fees are now included based on the date they were finalised in Stripe's system, rather than when your fee was processed to your Stripe account balance. As a result, some fees could fall in a different invoice month than they would have previously.
- **Line-item detail:** Fees previously grouped as "Stripe Processing Fees" or other broad categories now appear as individual line items per payment method—for example, Klarna, Bancontact, or iDEAL. The underlying fees are the same.
Your product pricing and tax rates are unaffected by this update.

## What to expect on your Tax Invoice
### Changes to your Reconciliation Process
If you are currently utilizing the Balance Summary Report for Tax invoice reconciliation, you will need to update your reconciliation workflow. This involves pairing the Balance Summary Report with Fees Report going forward. For more information, see Reconciliation process update due to Tax Invoice transition.
### Fees may appear higher than expected
Your invoice total for October could be higher than usual as we transition our Tax Invoice logic. Because October serves as a one-time transition period, your statement will reflect both the September subscription fee under our previous logic and the October subscription fee under the new model. **This is a one-time effect**—starting in November, your invoices will return to a single subscription charge per billing cycle. To learn how to locate and verify these line items on your reports, please refer to One-time Consolidated Billing Cycle due to Tax Invoice Transition.

## FAQ
### Does this create a gap or duplication in my invoice history?
No. This update only impacts the timing of when fees are reflected on your tax invoice. Your underlying product pricing and applicable tax rates will remain entirely unaffected, and the overall fee amount billed over any 12-month timeframe will stay exactly the same.
The sole exception applies to the invoice issued during the transition month, which may encompass fees spanning two separate billing cycles. This is an expected, one-time occurrence. See One-time Consolidated Billing Cycle due to Tax Invoice Transition.
### What about fees that are charged months later? How will these fees appear on Tax Invoice?
For users on IC+ pricing, Card networks can bill fees for a given payment up to two months after it was processed. For example, a charge processed in August could incur network costs as late as October. Under these circumstances, fees are recorded according to the creation timestamp of the Balance Transaction ID. For instance, network fees triggered in August but settled in October will appear on your October Tax Invoice instead of updating the August Invoice. To locate and verify these charges, follow the instructions provided in One-time Consolidated Billing Cycle due to Tax Invoice Transition).
### Audit trail continuity
Your invoice history remains complete and unbroken across the transition. For audit purposes:
- Period
- Fee dating method
---
- Invoices before the first effective invoice
- Balance transaction created date (UTC)
---
- Invoices including and after the first effective invoice
- When the fee was finalised in Stripe's system
Both methods are documented and auditable. The transition date is clearly defined and consistent across all accounts in your cohort.
To produce an unbroken reconciliation across the transition period, use the `balance_transaction_id` field to link invoice line items to balance movements across both periods. Full reconciliation steps are available in Reconciliation process update due to Tax Invoice transition.
### Statutory and tax compliance
All invoices—including the transition month invoice—are issued in compliance with applicable tax regulations in your jurisdiction. The change to accounting date does not affect:
- The legal validity of any invoice for VAT, GST, or other indirect tax purposes
- The amount of tax charged or credited
- Your entitlement to input tax credits (where applicable)
Stripe's tax invoices continue to meet the requirements of a valid tax document under the applicable rules for each jurisdiction. If you are in Japan, see Taxes on Stripe fees for businesses in Japan for Japan-specific requirements.
