If you are trying to make a payment, you can generally choose other forms of payment that may work for you (e.g. credit cards). If you wish to pay by bank debit, your merchant may also support micro-deposits as an alternative way to verify your bank account. With this verification method, you will enter your account and routing number manually, and we will then make a one-cent deposit to your account. This deposit will appear on your bank statement, and a unique six-digit verification code beginning with "SM" will be listed in the statement descriptor. The experience may look like the following:
Once the micro-deposit has been posted to your account within one to three working days, either Stripe or your merchant will notify you and prompt you to confirm the six-digit verification code beginning with "SM" from the statement descriptor. This will confirm that your account is open and available for debits, but it will not provide Stripe or your merchant with access to your data.
If you are trying to share financial information for a purpose other than making a payment and you prefer not to link your account, you may want to contact your merchant for potential alternatives.
