# Add state tax IDs for 1099 filings

When filing your 1099 tax forms, you don't need to specify which states to file in. Stripe automatically determines the required states and files in all of them.
## When to provide state tax IDs
Providing a state tax ID is optional in most states. If you don't enter a state tax ID, Stripe automatically uses your federal EIN for state filings.
## Resolve a missing state ID error during filing
If Stripe prompts you that a state registration or withholding ID is missing:
1. Go to **Tax forms settings** in the Stripe Dashboard.
1. Add the missing state tax ID.
1. Return to the filing flow.
## Format your state tax ID
Each state has a required format for its tax ID. If you see a "Not a valid state tax ID" error, check that the format matches what Stripe expects before re-entering.
## State-specific considerations
### Delaware and Pennsylvania
Delaware and Pennsylvania reject state filings when you have a state tax ID but don't provide it. If your business has a state tax ID from either state, enter it in **Tax forms settings** before filing.
Delaware and Pennsylvania require state IDs for 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC filings. They don't require it for 1099-K filings, so those states don't appear in the state ID columns of the 1099-K requirements table.
### Connecticut
Connecticut accepts two formats: 9 digits followed by a space and 3 digits (XXXXXXXXX XXX), or all 12 digits with no separator (XXXXXXXXXXXX). The format with a dash between segments is not accepted.
