# Accepting international payments from Stripe accounts in India

We've made the tough decision to temporarily offer our services by invitation only in India. This means that businesses from India will not be able to sign up for a new Stripe account through our website and will instead need to [request an invitation](https://stripe.com/in/contact/sales). We will only be able to support a select number of businesses, with a focus on international expansion, for the time being. Learn more [here](/questions/moving-to-invite-only-in-india).

### Stripe India accounts allow users to accept international payments in over 135 foreign currencies. To do so, users must have a valid Import/Export Code (IEC), have an active Stripe account based in India and complete the "Accepting International Transactions" process during account application. Note that individuals cannot accept international payments, and an IEC is required for accepting AMEX payments from international users.
You can accept international payments from your customers in over 135 foreign currencies using Stripe India accounts.
Eligibility
* Registered as a company, LLC or sole proprietorship (we don't support Individuals for accepting international payments)
* Have an active Stripe account based in India with KYC verification completed
* Does not belong to any of our [unsupported business categories](https://stripe.com/in/legal/restricted-businesses)
Process
1. Please make sure that you have already obtained a valid IEC (Importer/Exporter Code). You can check the validity of your IEC or apply for a new IEC through the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) website: [https://www.dgft.gov.in/CP/](https://www.dgft.gov.in/CP)
1. Completed "**Accepting International Transactions"** during account application. Here's the requirement for export-related info:
1. Export of services = Transaction purpose code
   1. While IEC is optional for export of services users, you still need to obtain an IEC to accept Amex payments from international users (otherwise the payment will fail)
1. Export of Goods = Importer/Exporter Code (IEC) and Transaction purpose code
1. Use our India Exports Guide for integration. Please make sure that you follow the guides as this is a mandatory requirement set by Indian regulators: [https://stripe.com/docs/india-exports](https://stripe.com/docs/india-exports)
1. Redirect your customers to complete 3D Secure authentication. Please follow [steps three and four, as detailed in our docs](https://stripe.com/docs/payments/3d-secure#render-iframe), to implement this change and test it

Notes:
* We are not in a position to advise you on the right transaction purpose code for your business, so please consult with your lawyer or pick the purpose code that is most relevant to your business.
* Individual users will not see an option to enable international payments from their account as they are unsupported.
