Stripe delivers 1099-K forms to your [Dashboard](https://dashboard.stripe.com/account/documents) by January 31. These tax forms are filed with the IRS and various state taxing authorities between January to April, per filing requirements.
### How to update or correct a 1099-K in the Dashboard
1. Go to [**Settings** > **Documents**](https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/documents) in your Dashboard.
1. Click **Update info** to update the taxpayer details on the form.
1. Update the form info. You can only update or correct the name, address, and TIN.
   * Note: the IRS will likely reject your submission if the address, name, or TIN don’t match the info they have on file.
1. Submit the change. Stripe will automatically e-file your changes with the IRS and state tax authorities using an automated system. Corrections can take up to one calendar week to process.
   * If the form was updated before filing, there will only be one form with the new details in your Dashboard.
   * If the form was corrected after filing, two new forms will be in your Dashboard.
### What can I change on my 1099 tax form?
You can only update the name, address, and TIN (SSN or EIN) on a 1099 tax form.
Stripe is required to report total gross volume and can’t change these amounts on 1099 forms. Per IRS regulations, full and partial refunds aren’t deducted from the gross volume amount.
If you have questions about the amounts on your 1099 tax form, learn how to reconcile your tax form amounts and calculate fees, refunds, and adjustments. Consult your tax advisor for help with this.
### Updates vs. corrections
Changes made to taxpayer details before filing are **updates**. This includes direct changes to the forms and updates to your account’s legal entity. Updates made to the name, address, or TIN on your account during this time will automatically update your pending 1099 tax forms.
If your 1099 form has already been filed, you’ll make a **correction** to your form details. You can only correct a form that’s been accepted by the IRS and/or state tax authorities. Any updates made to your taxpayer details on your account will not automatically correct your tax forms after filing.
### 1099 splits
You can split a 1099 tax form to divide the reported volume between two or more legal entities for the same tax year.
Splits are only available once the 1099 has been filed with the IRS, typically near the end of March. To split a 1099 tax form, contact [Stripe Support](https://support.stripe.com/contact/email) after your form has been filed.
### My 1099 was issued to the wrong entity type. How do I change it?
If your 1099 was issued to your personal SSN instead of your business EIN, or vice versa, you may need to update the business type on your account. The business type you select during account set up affects the tax reporting process.
- **Connected Account structure**
- **Details needed for 1099 tax forms**
---
- US Individual
- **Personal tax details:** Name, home address, and SSN
---
- US Company with Single Member LLC/Sole Proprietorship
---
- Non-US Single Member LLC/Sole Proprietorship with US person representative
---
- US Company with structures other than Single Member LLC / Sole Proprietorship
- **Business tax details:** business name, address, and TIN
---
- All other structures (such as non profit or government entity)
Correcting your tax form doesn’t change your business type or structure. Updating your business type or structure in the **Settings** > **Tax Details** section in the Dashboard also doesn’t automatically correct tax forms if they have already been filed.
### Why are there multiple copies of my tax form after submitting a correction?
The 1099 corrections process requires Stripe to file multiple sequential forms with the IRS. In your [**Documents** panel](https://dashboard.stripe.com/account/documents), you’ll see at least three forms for each year with a correction:
* The original 1099-K form
* The middle or zeroed form, which nullifies the volume attributed to the original entity
* The final corrected form, which attributes the volume to a new legal entity
Stripe cannot zero out or nullify a tax form without a new legal entity to attribute the volume to. Stripe is required by federal law to report all eligible processing volume.
