A W-9 form is generally used to confirm the TIN of a person or business and to establish that they are a US taxpayer. Unlike a W-8 form, there is only one version of the W-9 form, and it applies to both individuals and entities. Instructions explaining how to complete a W-9 form are attached to the form itself.
In general, if you or your business entity is a US taxpayer with a Social Security Number, Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, or Employer Identification Number, you’ll want to submit a W-9 form, though we recommend confirming your form choice with your tax advisor before finalising your submission.
