# Unclaimed balances FAQs for connected accounts

This article is for Custom and Express Connect users who have been notified by Stripe that they have unclaimed balances in their Stripe account.
## **Claiming Unclaimed Balances for an Inactive Account**
### I received a letter from Stripe that my account is inactive and I have unclaimed funds. How do I claim my funds?
If you received a letter from Stripe indicating that you have an inactive account with unclaimed funds and you have determined that the balance is owed to you, you will need to work with the Platform listed in your letter to claim your funds. You can do this by requesting a payout from your Platform for the balance amount included in the letter you received.
### What do I do if I didn’t claim my funds by the deadline?
If you received a mailed letter from Stripe notifying you that you have an inactive account with unclaimed funds, but didn't respond by the deadline listed in the letter, Stripe has transferred the unclaimed funds to the appropriate US state with your last known address.
You can no longer retrieve your unclaimed funds from Stripe. You'll need to go to your state’s unclaimed property website and claim the funds from that US state directly.The National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators (NAUPA) has an [interactive map](https://unclaimed.org/) that can direct you to the official government unclaimed property program for your state. There is no deadline for you to recover unclaimed funds from a US state.
### How do I claim my funds if my platform is no longer active?
If you received a mailed letter from Stripe notifying you that you have an inactive account with unclaimed funds but your platform is now defunct and no longer active, you'll need to work with Stripe to claim your funds. ### Can Stripe help me claim the unclaimed funds with the state directly?
