# My payout was sent to the wrong bank account

Payouts are sent to the bank account or debit card on file in your **Payout Details** at the time the payout is initiated. Changing your bank details after a payout has already been sent will not redirect it. You can [view your Express dashboard](http://connect.stripe.com/app/express) to see which account the payout was sent to.

## Can my payout be reversed?
If you notice the error while your payout is still pending, contact Stripe Express support immediately with your payout ID. Once a payout has been processed by the receiving bank, Stripe is unable to redirect it.
## What if my payout was sent to a closed or nonexistent account?
If the receiving account is closed or doesn't exist, the bank will typically return the funds to your Stripe balance. If your funds haven't returned after 5 business days, contact Stripe Express support.
## What if my payout was sent to a bank account that still exists?
If the funds were sent to an account that exists, even one you no longer use, then the receiving bank has accepted the deposit. Stripe is unable to retrieve these funds directly.
Contact the bank that received the payout and ask whether they can return or redirect the funds. Provide:
- Your bank account details
- The date the payout was expected
- The exact amount
- The payer name (Stripe)
## I don't recognize the bank account on file
**It may be an old account.** Check your **Account Settings** to see when it was added.
**If you believe the account was added without your authorization**, act immediately:
1. Change your default payout method to a bank account you control.
   - You may be asked to verify your identity when making this change. Have a government-issued ID ready. If the self-service flow shows an error, contact Stripe Express support and we'll complete the update with you.
1. Update your password and review recent account activity.
1. Contact Stripe Express support and report the unauthorized activity.
